Russell Schafer, DDS
Dr. Russell Schafer is happy and proud to call New Orleans his home. He was born in New Orleans, raised in Pearl River, and attended Jesuit High School and graduated in 2003. He went to Rice University in Houston where he graduated with a bachelors and masters in mechanical engineering degree. He then went on to graduate from LSU Dental School in 2013.
While in dental school, Dr. Schafer developed a love of learning, but he realized that dental school would not give him the knowledge he needed. While in school, he focused on learning modern dental techniques through attending courses given by the Louisiana Dental Association, American Dental Association, and the Academy of General Dentistry. In the past decade, dental technology has grown faster than any point in the past century. Dr. Schafer spends many hours researching and studying new materials and techniques so that he can help his patients get the best care possible. Dr. Schafer takes four to five times more continuing education hours than the state mandates dentists take in order to keep up with the ever-changing world of medicine and dentistry.
He is the owner and dentist at NOLA Dentures and General Dentistry and has fix quite a few mouths using removable dentures. He has a love of the subject and enjoys teaching fellow dentists about dentures. Dr. Schafer also enjoys doing digital design and printing and is fluent with blue sky bio, meshmixer, and many other CAD programs. Also Dr. Schafer currently owns four 3D printers: Moonray S, NextDent 5100, Arfona R.Pod, and a Prusa i3.
Denture focus
Dr. Schafer decided to focus on dentures because he believes that there is a need in New Orleans for well-made dentures. One key to well-made dentures is listening to the patient to understand the expectations and the type of smile wanted. Dr. Schafer understands that each of his patients has unique needs and focuses on having a personal relationship so that the treatment options fit the goals and budget of each person. He works hard to ensure his patients get great care at a price that doesn't break the bank.
Outside of the office
When Dr. Schafer isn't in his dental practice, he is often found in the kitchen. He cooks all types of food but loves to grill. His mom taught his brother and him how to cook from a young age, and it's a hobby that they both practice to this day. The love of food and cooking is a big reason why he loves dentistry. It's hard to enjoy a poboy or a snowball without good teeth, and it's hard to enjoy New Orleans if you can't enjoy the food.
